A new coronavirus information page has been set up under the Community section with relevant information from the local authority, police and NHS. It aims to highlight the information available to local residents.

Community support information

Sean BAKER of 1A Barkby Road, Syston is currently co-ordinating a food bank for the vulnerable and elderly as well as a toy exchange for families who could benefit from this support.

All of the recycling and household waste sites have been closed by Leicestershire County Council. More information is available on the county council website.

Garden waste service update

The garden waste service was suspended on March 23 and it is now clear that it will not be operating for some time.

This is because Serco is experiencing staff shortages due to the coronavirus pandemic and they are having to divert staff to ensure the recycling and refuse service is maintained.

Recycling & Refuse News!

Charnwood Borough Council offer a service for taking your garden waste.

For an annual fee they issue a 240-litre brown wheelie bin and empty it every fortnight (apart from a two-week period over Christmas).

The year-round service is easy to join and costs £40 if payment is by annual direct debit. If you pay by any other method, the charge is £45 per year.

An innovative scheme where residents are rewarded for helping others in their community is launching across Leicestershire.
